Kiku Collins has been a musician her whole life. Her first real love of music came from watching her older brother play the trumpet, and at age 7 she decided to play it as well, much to the surprise of her closed minded music program at school. It was a natural instrument for her, and since she could read music from playing the piano years before then, the transition to trumpet was easy with her big brother around to help!
A classical performance major at Manhattan School of Music and the Interlochen Arts Academy, Kiku finds more comfort and joy in the blues/jazz/rock world - though she insists that she practices classical etudes, exerpts and concertos "just for fun". She has performed with many groups, currently with the NYC Blues Devils (www.nycbluesdevils.com) and Psycho the Clown (www.aldoperez.com). Also in her history are such eclectic acts as Dave Wakeling/The English Beat, Sam Taylor, Inza Bamba, Tatu, The Hotpants Sextet, Ellis Island, The Zambonis, (and many, many more!), and has opened for Ray Charles, Vanilla Fudge, Travers & Appice, and plenty other greats! She has also been heard on TV and Radio with almost all of her instruments at one time or another: trumpet, flugelhorn, and vocals. But she also performs live on the valve trombone and piccolo trumpet!
Kiku brings her experience in advertising (Lowe & Partners/SMS, Bang Music, JSM, Fluid Post) as well as stage and recording to add new and exciting dimensions to Resonance. She is also the proud mother of a budding young musician girl!!!
